  • Here the client identifies the possibility for what they see as a better future

  • The client must:

    • discover this for themselves

    • commit themselves to what they want to achieve

  • This is the process of setting goals

What Goals to Identify

  • Goals must be

    • mutually and collaboratively developed

    • realistic

Outcome of Stage 2

  • The person should:

    • Feel better understood

    • Open up enough to explore, uncomfortable or confronting ideas

    • Better understand how they feel and why

    • Have clear goals

  • Common obstacles to change:

    • Lack of self belief

    • Habits

    • Time management

    • Goals are too big

    • Other factors that occur in real life situations
