Stage 3 - Action Programmes

A plan of action will be developed based on:

  • The best evidence available

  • Clinical expertise

  • Client preferences

The goals at this stage are:

  • Helping the client create and commit to their action plan

  • Encouraging the client to commit to taking specific steps

  • Exploring potential obstacles, and ways to overcome

  • Creating accountability and tracking progress

This stage is all about bridging the gap between stage, one and stage two

  • Reinforce the persons self efficacy

  • Identify and mobilise resources

  • Establish a way of monitoring progress

  • Adjust the action plan along the way if required

  • AT NO STAGE, ARE WE DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM AND PRESCRIBING TREATMENT

Outcome of Stage 3

The person should:

  • Understand the problem more fully

  • Reflect further on their feelings

  • Consider previously hidden feelings, emotions and attitudes and behaviours

  • Assess options for addressing the problem

  • Take action

  • What has worked in the past?

  • What small change my new start with?

  • How could you break this down?

  • What reward will you give yourself?

  • What will you do if things don't go to plan?

  • How can you keep yourself accountable to your commitments?
